In a somewhat unusual fashion, the blocks which were above grade and exposed to the elements on this house suffered severe deterioration on the outside. The blocks below grade had maintained their integrity and merely needed a new coating on the inside to look nice (The reason they look kind of ugly in the picture is caused by the peeling of multilple layers of sealing coats which were applied over the years). Excavation was done to help with waterproofing.
